Veterinary Assistant

Marika Strauss

Hydrotherapy-trained veterinary assistant and veterinary-nursing student who greets every patient with calm energy and a pocket full of treats.

Marika Strauss

Hi, I am Marika – usually the first smile you see at the door and the keeper of far too many treats. I originally worked in human medicine, but dogs have always been my real passion.

A few years ago I trained and qualified in canine hydrotherapy because I loved helping older and injured dogs regain strength and joy in movement. That path eventually led me to Atlantic Veterinary Practice, where I joined Dr. Marie-Louise in April 2024 to work in a space that feels calm, gentle, and genuinely caring.

Since coming on board I have begun studying Veterinary Nursing part-time. Day to day I greet clients, help anxious pets relax, assist with acupuncture and laser treatments, take weights, trim nails, clean ears, and do whatever makes each visit easier for every species and human involved.

I still get the same happy rush I used to feel in the hydro pool, only now it happens when a senior dog walks out looser and brighter after treatment.

At home I am kept in line by three purebred schnauzers who are certain the house (and I) belong to them – and I would not have it any other way.
